Our Choice of Leathers

Nettleton shoes use calfskin for our shoe uppers. Calfskin is commonly used for high-quality shoes, wallets and other similar products. Calfskin is particularly valuable because of its softness and tight fine grain. Because calfskin hides are small it takes more of them to make products. A calfskin hide is usually more than twice as expensive as cowhide and has a superb hand or feel. Cowhides are 22 to 50 square feet which is considerably larger and therefore less expensive and not as supple. Don’t get us wrong, you can make a nice pair of shoes from cowhide but it does not have the softness, beauty and elegance of calfskin. Our calfskin provider is the finest in the world, producing the highest grade product in the world.

Another choice in the manufacturing of Nettleton Shoes is Shell Cordovan. Shell Cordovan is an equine leather made from the fibrous flat muscle under hide on the rump of the horse. The processing of the hide removes the grain, or hair side, revealing what is termed the “shell”. Because the fibers are very close you have a smooth and pliable leather. It is known for its longevity and beauty. The tanning process itself is a very long, labor intensive process.

We use the finest shell cordovan leather in the world. Our out-soles are the highest quality produced in the world lasting up to 8 times longer than most leather out-soles used by other brands. Nettleton has long been known for quality. Our suppliers are among the best in the world. We will not sacrifice quality and craftsmanship for the sake of profit. You get the finest in gentlemen’s footwear.

With proper care and treatment your Nettleton shoes will last you years longer than others in the market.
